A word about language

I am very aware that disability positive language is a minefield. So, I wanted to explain why I use certain terminology.

·      I use identity first as the vast majority of disabled and neurodivergent people I know prefer it.

·      There are certain terms that I would prefer to never use. One of these is challenging behaviour. However, regulation and dysregulated are not well-known terms. By using common terminology, I believe, you can help people understand why certain terms are inaccurate.

·      Please do let me know if you ever see any language that is offensive. I won't promise to change it, but I promise to look at it and be guided by the disabled and neurodivergent people in my life.
